  • Agdia Licenses New Rapid, Isothermal DNA Detection

    Elkhart, IN (Feb. 18) -- Agdia, Inc. has licensed TwistDX’s patented Recombinase Polymerase Amplification (RPA) technology for the detection of plant pathogens. Under the terms of the agreement, Agdia will develop, manufacture, and commercialize rapid DNA and RNA test kits and services that utilize the RPA technology under the trade name AmplifyRP.

    AmplifyRP laboratory testing services and on-site detection kits for Candidatus Liberibacter spp, the casual agent of citrus greening (also known as Huanglongbing or HLB), will be available in 2011. AmplifyRP services and testing kits for other plant diseases and pathogens are also in development.

    A novel isothermal DNA detection technology, RPA offers several advantages over other testing systems, including speed, sensitivity, specificity, and portability and is suitable for field-usable nucleic acid tests as well as high throughput lab testing. The process employs enzymes capable of pairing oligonucleotide primers with homologous sequences in duplex DNA, directing DNA synthesis to defined points in sample DNA.

    If the target sequence is present, a DNA amplification reaction is initiated, rapidly progressing to detectable levels within 5 to 10 minutes. The entire process, including sample extraction, can be completed in less than 30 minutes.

  • Monsanto & TwistDx begin trials

    Cambridge, UK, 4th August, 2009 – TwistDx, a developer of point-of-use nucleic acid diagnostics,  announced today that they have made strong progress toward developing rapid, DNA-based field tests with Monsanto Company (NYSE:MON).  Monsanto plans to use the tests to enhance the efficiency with which biotechnology crops are delivered across the globe.

    To develop the tests, the companies are using TwistDx’s proprietary Recombinase Polymerase Amplification (RPA) technology. RPA is a novel DNA amplification technology that enables the tests to produce results faster than other DNA detection tests available today, while maintaining a very high level of specificity and sensitivity.

    “This collaboration underscores the value of our RPA technology for the development of tests that combine superiority in speed, accuracy, and portability,” said Dr. Niall Armes, CEO, TwistDx. “We believe RPA-based test systems represent an advanced evolution of DNA diagnostics, because they are faster and more accurate than other diagnostic testing systems now on the market.     Under the collaboration agreement, TwistDx received an undisclosed upfront payment. Additional payments could come in the form of research funding, payment upon reaching specific development milestones, and royalties from net sales resulting from commercialization of any test resulting from the collaboration.
