TwistDx is a growing biotech company, currently based over two main sites  –  a production site and an R&D site. We are now looking for someone to take over the responsibility of implementing best H&S practice commensurate with our business. This responsibility currently lies with the facilities manager.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • managing programme of H&S audits
  • support compliance of current working practice with H&S legislation
  • maintaining all H&S policy documents
  • train and advise managers on all health and safety issues and risks
  • ensure root causes of incident and accident reports are identified and corrective actions implemented in a timely fashion
  • ensure the safe installation of equipment
  • ensure the safe disposal of hazardous substances
  • advise on specialist areas such as fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases

The successful candidate will have a NEBOSH diploma or equivalent. Experience of working in an SME biotech company would be advantageous.

We envisage this role being part time and are open to negotiation with regards to exact hours.

Duties include the characterisation of RPA reagents and components using a variety of analytical techniques e.g. (U)HPLC, gel electrophoresis, NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, ICP-OES. They will develop (U)HPLC and LCMS methods for biomolecule characterisation and will run RPA reactions using company devices.

The successful candidate will be able to record, analyse and report data effectively; they will be able to work as part of a small collaborative team. Duties will also include routine equipment maintenance and calibration and general laboratory management duties such as ordering consumables. 

This role is based at our R&D department on Babraham Research Campus, Cambridge, UK.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for devising new processes and refining existing processes to optimise protein manufacturing. You will develop and optimise scale-up procedures for fermentation for the production of recombinant proteins from E.coli cultures.

Your day-to-day activities will include planning and implementing feasibility studies, planning process trials, sourcing materials and equipment, reviewing and interpreting analytical test results and data, and writing and implementing new manufacturing procedures. Managing communication with the R&D department, based on another site, alongside continual dialogue with the wider Protein department and manufacturing site will also be part of your daily role.

We are looking for someone with a PhD in Biochemistry, Microbiology or a related subject or extensive experience in the production of recombinant protein from E.coli culture. Experience working with bioreactors, a familiarity with development of In-Vitro Diagnostic products and a knowledge of good manufacturing process is highly desirable.

You will be responsible for conducting experiments in protein purification as directed by the Lead Scientist. You will perform the associated analysis and presentation. You will have the opportunity to participate in discussions over the direction of the work within this area. Once trained, you will be expected to be able to work with varying degrees of support so the ability and confidence to troubleshoot will be essential.

Your general laboratory duties will included equipment maintenance and calibration, preparing of procedural documents and an understanding and adherence to the company quality management system and company health and safety policy.

We are looking for someone with laboratory experience or a newly qualified life science graduate. Experience in protein purification using the AKTA systems and associated software would be an advantage but is not essential.
